Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the nutritional status and associated factors in night workers in an industry in Joinville, SC. Method: This is a cross-sectional study carried out with 210 employees. The selection of individuals was carried out by means of convenience sampling. Data collection took place in August 2019 from a questionnaire applied through an interview, which was stratified into the interviewee's general characteristics (name, gender, age), self-reported anthropometric data (weight, height), health status and food consumption. To check the association of exposure and outcome variables, the chi-square test was applied considering a significance level of p <0.05 with the aid of the Bioestatic 5.0 software. The research was approved by the research ethics committee. Results: 210 workers participated in the study, the majority of whom were men (99.0%) under the age of 40 years. The prevalence of overweight was high (64.4%) and no association was found between the variables analyzed. The prevalence of workers who consumed fruits and vegetables on a daily basis is low, and the frequency of sweets and the replacement of lunch with snacks are high. Conclusion: It reinforces the need for the company to adopt periodic educational measures and to monitor the health of workers, in addition to the importance of conducting new research, preferably prospective, that analyze other variables, in order to deepen knowledge and possible interventions.
