Objective: This study aimed to review the literature from the last five years in order to identify the possible impacts of BCAAs supplementation in adult liver cirrhosis. Methods: the bibliographic research performed in indexed databases, included in its scope observational studies and clinical trials that evaluated the potential impacts of BCAAs supplementation in adult cirrhotic patients. After applying the exclusion criteria, a total of 8 studies were included in this review Results: the main benefits found include significant improvement in prognosis, increased muscle strength, and increased serum albumin levels; the administration of BCAAs as Late Evening Snacks (LES) also seems related to better outcomes compared to daytime administration. Conclusion: despite the positive outcomes, the scarcity of studies in the last five years, the heterogeneity of objectives, and the variability of methodological proposals hinder an assertive conclusion regarding the efficacy of the supplement. Clinical trials that correlate dosages and outcomes in larger samples are required for a better understanding of the effects of BCAA supplementation in the cirrhotic population.
