Abstract

Objective: To identify the aspects of the food plan, in the form of a restricted diet, that lead to the abandonment of nutritional treatment for weight loss, according to the perception of overweight patients. Methods: This qualitative study was developed with adults, overweight (overweight or obese), who did not adhere to their weight loss treatments, through an interview, they were asked about the reasons they led him to such an attitude. Results: The content of the interviews showed themes related to treatment abandonment. The category “Restricted diet” stands out. In this perspective, the importance of the prescribed food plan was verified. Food restriction was seen as something that discourages persistence in treatment. It is noticed that the food that is indicated to the individual is also a preponderant factor for the permanence in the treatment. Conclusion: The food plan, in the form of a restricted diet, proved to be a complicating factor for individuals to remain in their treatments, which can lead to abandonment of therapy.
